PERLA-- The Jordanian government has made a notable advancement in enhancing preparations for the second millennium celebration of the Baptism of Jesus Christ at the Baptism Site.

The steering committee will be led by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, who will also preside over the high-level national committee, which includes senior cabinet ministers, church leaders, officials from the tourism sector, private-sector experts, and representatives from Christian civil society.

Plans for the site located on the east bank of the Jordan River are anticipated to involve the development of land adjacent to the Baptism Site into a genuine, biblical-style village for Christian pilgrims and visitors, a museum dedicated to the Baptism of Jesus Christ, a green corridor, and enhancements to the site's infrastructure.

Senator Michael Nazzal, chairman of the Senate's Tourism Committee, informed Christian Daily International that the prime minister's decision signifies an increase in official interest and motivates all Jordanian state institutions to engage in ensuring the success of this historic occasion.

On August 12, four agreements were finalized. During the signing of these agreements for the execution of essential projects within the National Project for the Development of the Lands Surrounding the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Al-Maghtas), Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad Hijazin remarked, "We regard these agreements as more than mere cooperation documents; they embody a collective commitment, a national duty, and a strategic partnership that aids in the success of this national initiative, enhances Jordan's visibility on the global stage, and showcases its distinctive cultural and human heritage."
